[07.02.23] JSC Kyrgyztelecom Branch Enterprise Enters the Market of Cellular Communication

JSC Kyrgyztelecom is currently registering its branch enterprise. Governmental resolution provides that the enterprise is issued a license to render cellular communication services of the GSM standard.
State Commission on radio frequencies will grant the enterprise a microwave range of 900 MHz without holding an auction. This is one of the measures to prepare for quality privatization of Kyrgyztelecom shares and to attract strategic investment.
At the present time there are two companies operating in the cellular communication market of the republic - Katel and Bitel. Expert estimation shows that the number of cell phone users is about 55-60 thousand throughout the country.
Kyrgyztelecom is the national operator to render telecommunication services in the republic. However, once its monopoly is over, new local and foreign companies will be able to enter the market of telecommunication services.
JSC Kyrgyztelecom was founded in 1997. The state has majority holding - 77,84%, the Social Fund - 12,51%, and others - 9,65%. There are more than 7 thousand employees and the companys stock capital is equal to 620 mln soms ($13 mln).
