[12.03.23] One-Day Meeting of the Council of Border Guard Forces Heads Ends in Bishkek

The 46th meeting of the Council of the heads of the border guard forces of the CIS countries was held in Bishkek today. The one-day session discussed problems of fighting international terrorism, illicit drug trafficking and illegal migration. All the CIS member-countries, except Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, attended the session which also assessed the last year's results of the Council's activities and adopted a plan for countering inter-border crimes, including drug trafficking.
Kyrgyz border troops commander Kalmurat Sadiyev praised Russia, as he put it, for its "invaluable assistance" in establishing and developing Kyrgyzstan's border guard service. The last Russian border guards left Kyrgyzstan in 1999. The meeting participants were received today by President Askar Akayev.
