[29.04.2OO3] Reconstruction of Irrigation Systems on the Agenda in the Issyk-Kul Oblast

Reconstruction of irrigation systems was one of the main issues on the agenda of the seminar on water resources held in the Issyk-Kul district, Chyrpykty village. Association of Water Users initiated and held the seminar for local heads of aiyl akmotu. According to director of agricultural department, R.Baikelov, the event was intended to find options for preservation and development of irrigation systems in the region
In the recent years, because of deteriorating irrigation system and poor management, aryks [water channels] of aiyl okmotu have gone out of use. Local associations of water users are the ones to tackle the problem. There are 6 such entities in the district at the present time, with 4 more to open in the near future. Such organizations are attracting grant resources. For instance, Chrpykty Association just received 7 mln soms to reconstruct water distribution ponds and aryks
