U.S. Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill visited the southern Osh Province of Kyrgyzstan on 16 July. He met with students and staff of the Osh State University, receiving a rank of honorable professor of the university. He also visited several agricultural and industrial enterprises as well as the Kyrgyz-Uzbek state border in the Kara-Suu district and climbed the Solomon Mount in the center of Osh.
O'Neill arrived in Bishkek on 14 July and met President Askar Akayev and Vice Prime Minister Joomart Otorbaev on 15 July discussing economical situation in the country and aspects of cooperation between the two states. He came from Ukraine and visits Uzbekistan and Georgia after Kyrgyzstan.
