[24.04.23] World Bank Rural Investment Project to Be Implemented in Kyrgyzstan

President A.Akaev held a meeting with G.Shraiber, head of WB rural investment project, at the House of Government. G.Shraiber briefed the President on the project goals and objective. Project management agency will be registered in Bishkek as a legal entity to oversee administration and realization of investment project. WB will finance the project on preferential terms - a good share of the total 15 mln dollars will be issued in grants. G.Shraiber pointed out that other donors take an interest in the undertaking as well - British DFD is one of them. Japanese embassy has also agreed to allocate a grant within the project. WB representatives and Kyrgyzstan are currently getting ready for implementation of the project, scheduled to launch either late in 2003 or early 2004.
A.Akaev was pleased that all project-related issues, raised during their previous meeting last October have been addressed and thanked the WB representatives for their efforts in helping Kyrgyzstan receive 1,2 mln dollars from the Japanese government. He also confirmed all logistics arrangement for realization of the project
