[10.09.23] Situation with the Kyrgyz Energy System Perplexes the Japanese

In the opinion of a senior advisor of the Japanese Agency for International Cooperation (JICA) on the projects about power supply systems and renewable energy resources Toshiyuki Hayashi, the situation in the Kyrgyz energy sector indicates that it is nearing collapse. Energy distribution sector is at its worst. And the Increasing coal and gas prices are making electric power the only available and affordable energy source especially in winter.
According to the experts' evaluations the energy system potential left over from the Soviet Union is gradually coming to the decline. And it is impossible to recover the system without financial means.
During the trips around Kyrgyzstan the foreign specialists note that Kyrgyz climate of is a unique natural hydropower potential, that could be used in mini-hydropower stations.
