A lethal accident happened in the afternoon of 8 July at the Kumtor gold mine in Kyrgyzstan. Part of a rock collapsed and killed 25-year-old foreman Almaz Jakishev. His body has not yet found.
The Canadian CAMECO Corporation develops the Kumtor gold deposit since 1994 and there are more than 500 metric tons of gold. The corporation spilt about two tons of sodium cyanide in May 1998 and several people died from poisoning in the nearby Barskoon village. Several other not lethal accidents happened before and later too.
