[26.04.24] Kyrgyz Parliament discusses crime-fighting efforts

Prime Minister Nikolai Tanaev addressed deputies of Kyrgyzstan's Lower House of parliament on 23 April in the course of a discussion of crime-fighting efforts. Interior Minister Bakirdin Subanbekov and Prosecutor-General Myktybek Abyldaev also spoke to legislators on the subject, noting that imperfect legislation and corruption have contributed to a recent rise in violent crime. Deputies expressed the view that the government needs to do more to fight crime, akipress.org reported. President Askar Akaev recently sacked two deputy interior ministers for their failure to contain rising crime.
