[05.03.2OO2] 1,819 cases of brucellosis in 2OO1

The current private sector predomination in animal husbandry and staff reductions in the state veterinary supervision services have resulted in a leap in animal morbidity of brucellosis. Animals, mainly small-horn cattle, communicate this disease to people. The disease becoming chronic as a rule results in disability

2001 has broken all 2000 records: 1,819 exposed cases of brucellosis were exposed in 2001 whereas 1,219 were in 2000. Morbidity is especially high in Talas, Issyk-Kul and Naryn oblasts. Over 30% of patients are children

The republic thus far has no standard documents binding to slaughter sick brucellosis livestock infecting people, healthy animals, pastures and water basins
