[11.06.2OO2] President Akayev to China late in June

According to Turatbek Junushaliev of the Foreign Ministry, President Askar Akayev would visit China late in June and the visit would begin on 23 June. Akayev told journalists on 31 May that he would sign an agreement on friendship with China during his visit to Beijing and the agreement would stop any territory claims of any sides.
Akayev signed in 1996 and 1999 the two agreements on border delimitation between Kyrgyzstan and China and about 125,000 hectares of land are transferred to China according to them. Opposition says Akayev signed the agreements secretly from the parliament and they must be annulled. According to the constitution, only the parliament has the right to change the state borders.
