[19.06.2OO2] Jalal-Abad governor receives supporters of Beknazarov

Governor of the Jalal-Abad Province Jusupbek Sharipov received in Jalal-Abad on 19 June the 12 representatives of the protesters holding pickets in the town since 17 June. He said there was no reason for them to gather in Jalal-Abad, because the Beknazarov's trial is held in Toktogul, and he could give them buses to go to Toktogul.
About 4,000 people gathered in Jalal-Abad town on 19 June, but they did not hold protest picket.
About 1,500 people arrived on 17 June in Jalal-Abad from the town of Tash-Komur, marching about 150 kilometers of way in five days, and 4,000 to 7,000 people held pickets in Jalal-Abad on 17 and 18 June. They demanded President Askar Akayev and several other officials to resign, to acquit Deputy Azimbek Beknazarov, and to bring to justice those responsible for the Aksy bloodshed happened last March. They also protested against transferring the Kyrgyz territories to China.
