[19.06.2OO2] Osh mayor: no sanctions to any meetings in the city

Mayor of Osh City Jantoro Satybaldiev told RFE/RL correspondent in an interview given on 19 June that the city administration did not allowed a meeting of the Ata-Meken Party to be held in Osh on 23 June. According to him, he is responsible for safeness of the multi-ethnic population of the city and would not allow any meetings in the city in such difficult economical situation. Satybaldiev said also that many city residents say they do not want any meetings. Population of Osh is about 400,000.
Satymbai Osmonov of the Ata-Meken Party and Noomanjan Arkabaev, coordinator of the Kyrgyz Committee for Human Rights in Osh Province informed RFE/RL correspondent on 18 June that the city administration allowed the meeting and that about 10,000 people were expected to gather at the city stadium.
