[17.12.22] Aksy District Administration Rejects Application On Protest Meeting

The administration of the Aksy district in the Osh region rejected an appeal by the Committee For Protection of Victims Of Aksy Events to permit protesters to organize a gathering in the village of Kara-Jygach on December 19, 2002. According to the head of the district administration Abdymalik Egemberdiev, the local authorities were against the date, because on that day a big livestock market was planned. The administration suggested the next day for the gatherings for security reasons. It would be an obstacle for ordinary people in the village, said Egemberdiev to a RFE/RL correspondent.
