[03.03.23] 11-year Anniversary of the New Kyrgyz Flag

Eleven years ago on this day the new Kyrgyz flag was adopted at the 8th session of the Jogorku Kenesh. On March 5, 1992 it was raised above the White House. E.Aidarbekov, B.Jaichybekov, S.Iptarov, J.Mataev and M.Sydykov were the authors. Bekbosun Jaichybekov, the one who proposed to draw a tyndyk on the flag an opening for light and smoke in the ceiling of the urt, a symbol of hearth and Universe, was honored to take down the old flag and to raise the new one. The red of the flag, according to its authors stands for valor and bravery, the golden Sun and its rays for peace and brotherhood.
However, some citizens believe that symbols of the new flag are hard to understand for many, especially foreigners. Earlier this year LA deputy Isa Tokoev proposed to turn back to the old flag with horizontal strips of red, blue and white. I.Tokoev believes that these colors are more appropriate attributes. At the present time the deputy is developing a bill on the change of the national flag.
