[10.04.23] Inflation in Kyrgyzstan at 2% in Q1

Inflation in Kyrgyzstan in the first quarter amounted to 2%, Kyrgyz National Bank Chairman Ulan Sarbanov said at a briefing on Thursday.
He said that this indicator is one percentage point higher than inflation in the republic in the first quarter 2002. "The increase in inflation in the first quarter this year is due to seasonal fluctuations in the price of agricultural produce," he said.
However, according to preliminary information from the National Statistics Committee, in the first three months of the year a drop in price was noted for some foodstuffs.
Sarbanov said that in the first quarter 2003 Kyrgyzstan noted a trend towards the strengthening of the national currency against the dollar, increased exports, growth in international reserves at the National Bank, all of which indicates the strengthening of the economic situation in Kyrgyzstan.
The law on the budget for 2003 contains inflation at 5%.
