[30.05.23] CIS Leaders for Restoration of Deported Persons Rights

Presidents of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) member countries signed the protocol extending for ten years the agreement restoring the rights of deported persons, ethnic minorities, according to Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma.
He said this decision is connected with the fact that the agreement signed in Bishkek in 1992 expires on 26 June 2003.
Kuchma said there is a need to continue dealing with the deported persons problems.
Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Armenia, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Belarus signed the agreement in Bishkek in 1992.
Under the agreement the persons deported by the authorities of the former USSR mostly to Central Asian districts must be guaranteed appropriate rights and given material compensation upon their return to their natives places.
