[11.06.23] Kyrgyzstan Interested in Greater Cooperation With OSCE

Kyrgyzstan is interested in advancing and strengthening cooperation with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and other institutions, Kyrgyz President Askar Akaev said at a Tuesday meeting with head of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Bruce George in Bishkek.
He said constructive cooperation with OSCE institutions is important for his country, especially for strengthening regional security, developing democracy and promoting economic reform.
"It is essential that the interaction with the OSCE develop along the lines of implementing projects necessary for the republic," Akaev said.
For instance, an OSCE academy and a model police station are to be set up in Bishkek. The president said that the creation of the police station will play an important role in reforming law enforcement.
At a meeting with Kyrgyz deputies George said that the parliamentary assembly is ready to expand cooperation with Kyrgyz legislators.
Members of the Kyrgyz parliament, in turn, asked him for consultative and expert assistance in drafting the democratic code of Kyrgyzstan.
