[12.01.24] EU To Continue Food Program in Kyrgyzstan, Support Strengthening of Borders

The representation of the European Commission in Kyrgyzstan informed Deputy Prime Minister Joomart Otorbaev on 12 January that the European Union will continue its support for the country's Food Security Program in 2004, akipress.org reported. The program, under which Kyrgyzstan has received 45.5 million euros ($58 million) in support since 1996, functions in the poorest countries of the CIS -- Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, and Tajikistan -- to promote reforms to ensure a stable food supply. The EU has also committed $10 million to assist Kyrgyzstan in strengthening its borders to stop trafficking in drugs, arms, and human beings, RIA-Novosti reported on 13 January.
