Kyrgyzstan is about to introduce fertility criteria recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). According to Convention on Children Rights adopted by the UN Assembly on November 20,1989, every child is to registered as soon as he is born. Kyrgyz Parliament ratified this Convention in 1994. New criteria help improve medical statistics on infant mortality and numbers of delivered babies, lower demographic losses and include aid to women and infants.
New WHO criteria require certain level of skills from the specialists, therefore starting January 2003 new courses will be held for doctors - obstetricians and gynecologists, medical statistics workers and pathologists of Bishkek and Chiu oblast. USAID is providing financial assistance having already purchased equipment for maternity hospitals.
