[07.04.23] Zuura Umetalieva Is Appointed As Representative of the Ombudsman In Naryn Region

Zuura Umetalieva, a member of the opposition "Erkin Kyrgyzstan" (Free Kyrgyzstan) Democratic Party, was appointed to the position of the representative of the Kyrgyz Ombudsman for the remote Naryn region. Umetalieva is known as one of the prominent politicians and human rights campaigners in the region since the beginning of the 1990s. She was one of the founders of the regional branch of the Kyrgyzstan Democratic Movement in 1990, then she joined the "Erkin Kyrgyzstan" Party (1992).
The Ombudsman, Tursunbai Bakir-Uulu, was the leader of the party. Bakir-Uulu stopped his membership to the party shortly after his election to the newly established position on November 21, 2002.
