[15.04.23] Kyrgyzstan: Russian Intelligence Head Discusses Terrorism, Extremism

Sergey Lebedev, the head of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), has had negotiations with the administration of Kyrgyzstan. The negotiations lasted for two days. Lebedev met Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev, Kyrgyz Security Council Chief Misir Ashirkulov and the administration of Kyrgyzstan's defense and security agencies [the head of the department for defense and security matters at the Kyrgyz presidential administration, Bolot Dzhanuzakov], the Kyrgyz president's press service reported. "The topics of the negotiations were not disclosed to the media," the press service said. However, sources at the Kyrgyz defense and security agencies told Interfax that the negotiations addressed the development of interstate and interdepartmental cooperation on security in Central Asia, as well as cooperation between the relevant agencies in preventing international terrorism, religious extremism and drug trafficking.
